Hickory Nut Mountain From the North

This beautiful mountain lies just north of my valley, and is the first 3,000 foot mountain along the eastern Blue Ridge escarpment south of Linville Gorge. This unusual view is from the north, which gives a wonderful look at the rocky cliffs near the summit. Perigrine Falcons inhabit these outcroppings. The barn in the forground is very old, but the sharp lines of the architecture give it a much more contemporary profile.

  1. Lovely shot of our backyard and the majestic HickoryNut Mountain from our family farm, Stoneybrook. The barn, incidentally, is not that old—it was built by my father in 1982 and is constructed of locally hewn oak.
