Clouds Over the Eastern Escarpment
The storm that blanketed New England with record snows today had passed over the Eastern Blue Ridge Escarpment on Friday, leaving swollen creeks and low clouds in its path. Above is a mist shrouded 3,100 foot Wolf Pen Mountain and its valley of hardwoods and pines.
The 2,600 foot summit of Roan Horsetop Mountain along the Rutherford-Buncombe County line finds an area of sun in an otherwise overcast sky. With surface temperatures barely above freezing, those clouds were most definitely all ice. Snow was falling on Mt. Mitchell just to the northwest.
more beautiful images from the Blue Ridge. sorry the blizzard missed your valley.
Remind me of snow clouds.
