Early December Morning on the Rocky Broad River
Deep inside Hickory Nut Gorge on a frozen December morning, the Rocky Broad River welcomes a bright sunrise.
Looking up over a thousand feet, world famous Chimney Rock clings to the sheer granite face of the south wall of the gorge. As the oldest and most popular of the tourist destinations along the Blue Ridge, this natural wonder never ceases to inspire awe in the hearts of the millions who have climbed onto its dizzying cap.
A frozen Hickory Nut Falls hides in the morning shadows, while ice shards line the river bank. The steep north face catches the sunlight. The 50 second video below shows the river as it descends toward Lake Lure downstream.
