Autumn Arrives at Cedar Creek Gorge

At the far northwest corner of Rutherford County, about twenty minutes from the house, Cedar Creek has cut a deep gorge as it tumbles over the escarpment. Driving up Cedar Creek Road, I passed this log home that sits above the creek.

Further up the road, autumn colors are rapidly covering the hillside…

Another mile and I find the narrow entrance to the first set of falls…

The last falls, above, send the creek twenty feet over the boulders into the large grotto shown below. More falls are in the gorge, but they are inaccessible through normal means.

Tucked underneath a ledge in a dry place is this large Hornet's Nest.

  1. Oh…….I am so envious……your home looks so lovely tucked among the trees……..and leaves are changing.  Seems a bit early, but have been gone from “those WV hills” for a long time. Thanks for sharing……love the pics and dialogue.Patsy From: Living in The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina- A Blog To: pjcar119@yahoo.com Sent: Sunday, September 20, 2015 9:38 PM Subject: [New post] Autumn Arrives at Cedar Creek Gorge #yiv6551712559 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv6551712559 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv6551712559 a.yiv6551712559primaryactionlink:link, #yiv6551712559 a.yiv6551712559primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv6551712559 a.yiv6551712559primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv6551712559 a.yiv6551712559primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv6551712559 WordPress.com | Carolina Vann posted: “At the far northwest corner of Rutherford County, about twenty minutes from the house, Cedar Creek has cut a deep gorge as it tumbles over the escarpment.
